How to Make a Hotel-Quality Bed At Home

You know how good you feel when you sleep better. Studies confirm it—a good night’s rest is not only the simplest, but also one of the best things you can do to prevent illness, manage stress and increase your daily productivity. Getting more and better sleep also improves memory and puts you in a better mood. That’s where making a hotel-quality bed at home comes in.

The fact is, for the hotel industry, ensuring you get a good night’s sleep is a science. A lot of research goes into the most minute details—right down to the color and quality of your linens, and the way your bed is made.

A meticulously-made bed promises good sleep, and the crisp perfection of a hotel-quality bed made up with luxury linens can help make that a reality in your own home. Clean lines and minimal distractions are key elements in whatever you choose, but experts agree—you should use the best quality linens you can afford.

For an impeccable bed at home, follow these steps:

Step one:

Perfect corners

  1. Place the flat sheet evenly on the bed (the finished side should face the mattress), then tuck the base side in between the mattress and the box spring so that the fabric drapes at the corners
  1. Starting at one end, draw the excess fabric upward and place it on top of the mattress, creating a triangular shape
  1. Tuck the base of the triangle between the mattress and the box spring, and let the sheet fall
  1. Tuck in the hanging fabric along the side of the mattress
  1. Repeat steps 2 through 4 on the remaining corner

Step two:

A comfortable duvet

  1. Take both corners of one end and insert them into the corners of the duvet cover
  1. Pinching the duvet in place at each end, shake the duvet cover over the rest of the duvet
  2. Place the top of the duvet on the bed, then pinch the bottom of the duvet into the corners at the bottom of the duvet cover; the duvet will appear bunched up
  1. Careful to hold the top corners of the duvet inside the cover, drag the duvet into place on the bed
  1. Option: roll the duvet back in half or thirds to create a layer at the foot of the bed
  1. Smooth down for a perfect finish

Step three:

Smooth pillows

  1. Fold pillow in two to get it into the pillow case
  1. Tuck one side of the pillowcase in
  1. Fold the opposite side of the pillowcase in to close the opening

 Step four:

Dress the bed

  1. Place standard pillows flat
  1. Lay decorative edged pillows on top
  1. Stack European squares in front
  1. Option: add a rolled pillow in front
